Documents and statements from individuals close to the Bush White House reveal that the Administration was interested in invading Iraq as early as inauguration day 2001. But it took an event like September 11th, 2001, and a sustained campaign in news media to build public support for war. Ultimately, with assistance from the media, the Bush Administration was able to meld in the public mind the destruction of the World Trade Center and Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. What’s more, cooked-up intelligence reports fueled a steady stream of official pronouncements that the Iraqi regime possessed nuclear, chemical, and/or biological weapons.
On this edition of Making Contact, we take a look at the information war on Iraq. We’ve dug into our audio vault to bring you this special presentation: An exploration of war propaganda through sound clips and soundscapes.
