Indigenous women organizing throughout Central America focus simultaneously on economic globalization issues and their rights as women. On this program from the Women’s Desk of the National Radio Project, indigenous women from Mexico and Honduras discuss their work. Each year they heighten their activities during “International Women’s Day.” We also look at how that day is, or isn’t, commemorated in the United States.

Featuring:

Patricia (a pseudonym), Regional Women’s Coordinator of the Zapatista Autonomous Community 10th of April; Hilary Klein, activist; Yolanda Castro, Highlands Region Alliance of Civil Society in Resistance; Bertha Caceres, Civic Council of Indigenous and Popular Organizations in Honduras (COPINH); Janet Ramsey and Rose Young, Berkeley Unified School District students; Laurie Nairn and Jeannette Hassberg, Global Women’s Strike organizers.
